Apple Bluetooth patent to sense the position of the headset
Apple is one of the American companies that is very careful in safeguarding their secrets and technologies, thus applying for patents for almost everything they develop in their labs. One of those patents concerns Bluetooth technologies for headsets that can sense the position of the headset via an internal accelerometer. Now that’s not something new, as many high end smartphones have integrated accelerometers that tell them when to rotate the image on the screen according to the way users hold their gadget (landscape of portrait mode).
In the case of Apple’s patent the accelerometer is used to remap the control buttons so that for example the upper key is used to increase volume. That’s not something highly practical, but makes for a fluent transition between different positions of the device, being more natural, but at the same time different from what we’re used to. We’ll keep you informed about how well this thing goes.
