Bluetooth headset that doesn’t need recharging for a year

Author: John Pope

All bluetooth technologies seem nice, but all come with a dezastrous consequence on a mobile device: they shorten battery life. Texas Instruments addressed this problem with a bluetooth chip prototype that’s supposed to last for over a year without recharging, using only a regular watch battery for power.

The first consumer samples will be available next year, and hopefully a wide range of products till end of the year. I cannot stress enough the importance of this news, as we might see in the future (as other wireless technologies are developed) mobile devices without the need for a battery swap. Once battery technologies evolve even more, coupled with the consumption reduction this might be the future of cordless headphones that never need recharging.
