What is Bluetooth pairing?

Author: John Pope

If you heard about Bluetooth, I’m sure you heard about pairing. Well, let’s digg in to this term and see what’s all about. First, pairing is defined between two Bluetooth enabled devices which have previously prearranged for data to be send between them. It’s like with Headset Walkie Talkies which are paired one to another for communications.

How can I pair two devices?

  1. Start Bluetooth on both of them
  2. Set the first one discoverable
  3. Start Bluetooth application on the second one and search for the first one
  4. Selecte the first device when search is done
  5. Input a control pin on the first one
  6. Confirm the pin on the second one

Remember that in the case of headphones and headsets, which don’t have a display, use them as the first device. The second bluetooth device, which will look for the headphones is a phone or an MP3 player. Look for the input pin in the manual of the first device. Usually the pairing code is 0000 or 1234.
